She Couldn’t Be Forgiven

This text was inspired by Elena Ferrante's novel, The Story of a New Name. I achieved the pattern on the paper with a graphite rubbing technique. I recorded the textures of various objects on top of LaserJet photos of those objects. The textures of the laundry basket, box fan, city drain, etc., are textures of my environment, found inside and outside of my home. Some of the paper has been cut into strips and sewn back together in order to bridge the gap between the flat pieces of paper and the raised ceramic elements. The ceramic pieces are made of textures inspired by female traditions of manipulating fibers. The work explores the dangers that accompany women who have desires apart from what is expected of them within a patriarchal society.
