(Blue)print Samples

2022

Repurposed tarps, repurposed drainage pipes, acrylic, screws, twine, repurposed wooden railing, ceramic

I know tears to be slippery,

But not like a splash of water on a polished concrete floor–

Slippery like quicksand.

But maybe I should let them all go–

I could flood this whole place.

Maybe then I could learn to float,

Maybe I could even swim.

In this series I use the term Blueprint in a multifaceted way. In one respect, I reference reproductions of drawings used for infrastructural planning. (Blue)print Samples offer plans for how to create things with a sensitivity mirrored in handcraft traditions that emphasizes tactile engagement, slow processing, and intergenerational connection.

I use blue to investigate themes around water and the melancholic feeling associated with the cool hue.

The poem accompanying the (Blue)print Samples, like the writing for the Green Tarp Diptych, focuses on the essential nature of water. Here, water symbolizes tears, highlighting the significance of acknowledging and witnessing emotions.
